Understanding the Impact: Does EFI Live Delete DPF and EGR?

Updated on

In recent years, diesel engines have installed several systems to lower their emission levels. The diesel particulate filter and exhaust gas recirculation valve are the best-known systems that lower emissions. On the downside, they also lower the engine’s overall power and performance levels. That is why there are tools to remove them from the car.

But does EFI Live delete DPF and EGR? EFI Live offers an option to delete those systems just outside of the US. EFI Live follows every country’s regulations before adding any option to their systems. That means if, in your country, the DPF and EGR removal is forbidden, EFI Live will not have those options.

What is EFI Live?

EFI Live is a tuner tool for custom-tuning cars and trucks. With it, you can get more power and torque by reconfiguring the car’s computer.

Features and Benefits of the Software

Unlike most tuning tools, you cannot create your tunes with EFI Live. Once you acquire the tool, the professionals from EFI Live will create tunes based on your needs and possibilities.

That way, all the upgrades are safe for your car. Also, EFI Live offers to monitor the upgraded system. That way, you can always check how your truck handles the upgrades. You can always notice something before it happens if something is to go wrong. That way, you are not blind about your upgrades and boosts and can always monitor them.

What are DPF and EGR?

The diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a part of the exhaust system closest to the engine. It was invented by Peugeot in 2000. Different DPF filters are in the market, but cellular ceramic honeycomb filters are the most commonly used.

The filter consists of channels that are blocked on each end, forcing the exhaust gasses to go through the filter walls. The exhaust gases can pass through, but the dangerous soot remains trapped in the filter.

From time to time, the DPF filter needs to regenerate and clean itself from that soot. That process is called DPF regeneration. The car must be driven for long miles in highway conditions. That way, the filter burns off all the build-up of soot inside.

The EGR valve allows an exact amount of exhaust gases to reenter the intake system. This way, less harmful gasses are returned to the atmosphere. Also, the air entering the engine is different. Air with less oxygen burns slower, thus lowering the temperature in the combustion chamber to around 150 °C. That way, the air coming out of the exhaust becomes much cleaner.

The EGR valve has two values – when it is open and when it is closed. At lower speeds and at idle, the valve is open. When more torque and power are required, the valve will gradually close to ensure more oxygen enters the cylinders.

Why delete DPF and EGR?

DPF and EGR obstruct the exhaust and change the air-to-fuel ratio in the vehicle’s engine. Removing them can help you regain some of the power and performance in your car. When you remove these systems, you also remove any restrictions from the exhaust pipe and engine intake.

Also, another benefit of removing the DPF and EGR is improved overall reliability. Problems with engine overheating and exhaust clogging will be reduced.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Deleting These Systems

The major pluses after removing the DPF and EGR are

  • Improved fuel economy
  • Lower engine temperatures
  • Minor engine power increases
  • You will get an overall more efficient truck

The downsides are the costs of removing these systems are

  • If you use the EGR, delete kit, your car will not be able to pass the emission tests
  • The cost of removing these systems
  • Your car will have increased bad gas emissions.

Can EFI Live to Delete DPF and EGR?

EFI Live, as a company, needs to follow the laws of their country. That means that within the US, their tuning tools don’t offer an option of deleting the DPF and EGR. Deleting these systems is forbidden in the US and is subjected to penalties. If you are tuning business, you want to avoid legal problems.

Compatibility of EFI Live With Different Diesel Engines and Models

EFI Live is a custom tuning platform compatible with GMC and Chevy Duramax engines made from 2001 to the present models. It is also compatible with RAM trucks powered with Cummings engines made between 2006. and 2009.

FAQs

Where Can I Get Duramax DPF Deletion Kits?

One of the rare tools that you can use to remove the DPF and EGR is the Mini Maxx Race Tuner.

What Issues Are There With the Duramax DPF Delete?

The main issues are legal ones. You will not pass the emission test and cannot drive your car.

How Much HP Do a DPF and EGR Delete Add?

Depending on the car, you can expect to gain between 150 and 80 horsepower. A lot of power potential can be unlocked, but only with the help of a little tuning. Power levels will increase after improving some stock parts and reprograming the ECU.

Do you have to delete both EGR and DPF?

No, you don’t. You can delete just the EGR or just the DPF. You can buy a complete delete kit or a kit that deletes one of the systems. A separate delete kit can be used for deleting individual systems.

Final Considerations

Removing the EGR and DPF will help your engine breathe easier. Your car will get additional power but will not be legal in the US. Deleting these systems is forbidden in the US because of the laws regulating levels of exhaust gasses.

If you want to delete these systems, you can expect better fuel economy and fewer problems with engine overheating. Also, you will gain some power but do not expect lots of power. If you decide to remove the EGR and DPF, first check the laws in your country. The removal is not cheap, and the last thing you need is a problem with the law.
